ABOUT US

"One of the world's leading experts on underwater sound defense and was twice recognized by the United States Government..."

Since the time of its founding by Dr. C.P. Boner in 1935, the firm of Boner Associates has actively consulted in acoustics, noise control and sound systems for buildings. Design specialties include building acoustics, building noise control, sound reinforcement system design, site testing and equalization, and design of Audio and Video systems.

Dr. Boner maintained an active consulting profession in addition to his duties at the University of Texas at Austin as Professor of Physics, Adjunct Professor for the College of Architecture, Chairman of the College of Arts and Sciences and Vice President for Academic Affairs. During his tenure with the University, he founded and served as Director of the Applied Research Laboratories and the Defense Research Laboratories, and also established the Office of Sponsored Projects, serving as executive director. Dr. Boner was one of the world's leading experts on underwater sound defense and was twice recognized by the United States Government for his work on anti-submarine weapons and special torpedoes and his contributions to naval ordinance development. In addition to his many contributions and distinguished honors, he also served as president of the Acoustical Society of America.

Following his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1970, Dr. C.P. Boner continued acoustical consulting and continued the extensive training of his sons, current Owners and Principal Consultants Charles Boner and Richard Boner, in this profession until his death in 1979.

In 1961 Charles R. Boner joined the firm in conjunction with his studies in music at the University of Texas, which included French horn performance with the Austin and San Antonio Symphony Orchestras. It was during the decade of the 1960's that the firm undertook a comprehensive research project into the behavior of sound systems in rooms, with a particular focus on the phenomenon of feedback. This research culminated in the issuance of several patents and most audio equalizers in use today are either direct or indirect outgrowths of the technology contained in those patents.

In 1968 Richard E. Boner joined the firm, following his studies in physics at the University of Texas, where he attained the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa honors. Subsequently, he served a tour of duty with U.S. Naval Intelligence. Research continued in the area of electroacoustics. Richard is an avid opera enthusiast, and has toured the major European concert halls and opera houses.

The professional personnel of the firm maintain active memberships in the National Council of Acoustical Consultants, Acoustical Society of America, Audio Engineering Society, Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, United States Institute of Theatre Technology, and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

The firm has been owned and operated in Austin, Texas since its founding. Richard Boner brings a total of over 62 years of experience in acoustical design disciplines, including work in conjunction with over 6,000 projects.
